Graduated Driver's License (GDL)
The Graduated Driver's License (GDL) law in New Jersey is a three step process.
By following these three steps you can be granted a full driver's license by the
state of New Jersey.
|
STEP 1: Obtain a 16-year-old permit, pass a written test, an eye exam, and complete six(6) hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.
STEP 2: Provisional (with restrictions) license, may be granted at age 17 after completing a minimum of six(6) months of supervised driving with a validated permit.
STEP 3: Full Basic (no restrictions) license, is available at age 18 after having provisional license for one year.
Road Ready Driving School is here to help you with Step 1. New Jersey law now requires that we
purchase the permit for you. This will require a parent's signature. The
Division of Motor Vehicles requires that we supply your parent with a parent's
handbook published by the state. The handbook details the new GDL law and the proper
way to practice driving with a parent after completing your 6 hours of
professional behind-the-wheel training. We have additional
information for parents.
